Opened in 1973, the Pyongyang Metro consists of two main lines: the Chollima Line and the Hyoksin Line. Stations lie about 100 meters underground, doubling as bomb shelters. Lavishly decorated with chandeliers, murals, and propaganda mosaics, the metro reflects North Korea’s socialist aesthetics. Foreign visitors typically tour Yonggwang and Puhŭng stations with a short ride between them.
